An autocracy is a form of government different from collective dictatorship for a number of reasons: its motivations for seizing power, the institutions through which it organizes its rule and the ways in which it leaves power. Often viewing itself as saving the nation from the corrupt or myopic civilian politicians, an autocracy justifies its position as "neutral" arbitration on the basis of its membership within a militaristic elite.
When autocracy is established, the society is prepared for much more immediate action than in a deliberative system. But the best benefits appear exactly in the political sphere: the leadership is dedicated to constantly advancing its ambitions and consolidating power, thus transforming your empire into an intimidating presence amongst other rulers!
